Projected Affection is an interactive window display developed for AC Gears, New York’s premiere gadget boutique. The piece, created by NYU Graduate Student, Emily Ryan, reveals the hidden world of AC Gears by exploring a love story between the store’s two window mannequins.
Employing projection mapping techniques and animations, their tale of unrequited love will unfold before the viewer’s eyes. By utilizing motion sensors to trigger the animations and incorporating facial recognition technology, users can actively take part in the installation.
Emily Ryan (b. 1982, Georgetown, Texas) lives and works in New York City. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Interactive Telecommunications at NYU. Emily received her BA in Film from the University of Texas at Austin. Her most recent project was a large-scale window display for the H&M flagship store in New York City, http://hmnycproject.com. The HMNYC Project was installed from November 2010-February 2011 and was enjoyed by over 5000 people during the holiday season.
Projected Affection will be viewable at AC Gears’ NYC store at 69 E. 8th Street, from May 1st until June 30th. It will be one of the first in its kind in New York City allowing customers and pedestrians to interact directly with a retail store display. AC Gears will be hosting a reception party with raffle prizes on May 6th for the public and the press. Alcoholic beverages and food sponsored by Sapporo USA, 44 North, and Nutbox. Raffle prizes sponsored by Urbanears Denmark, Nooka NYC. Please visit AC Gears’ website or Facebook event page for details.
